Welcome to the website of the international Conference for School Effectiveness, School Improvement, School Management. The International Seminar (IS) from September 1-3, 2009 and the School Leadership Symposium (SLS) from September 3-5, 2009 will be held at University of Teacher Education of Central Switzerland (PHZ) in Zug. The conference topic is: “School Leadership Today, School Leadership for Tomorrow: Conflicting Expectations and Demands – Challenging Solutions”.
The host of the international conference is the Institute for the Management and Economics of Education (IBB), University of Teacher Education of Central Switzerland (PHZ) Zug, Director Prof. Dr. Stephan Gerhard Huber.

The aim of the International Seminar (IS) & School Leadership Symposium (SLS) 2009 is to discuss recent topics and emerging issues in the field of school leadership professionalization, and to establish and support professional links and networks. The core idea is to share ideas, knowledge, and experiences, but also to develop potential network possibilities in the fields of school leadership, leadership training and development, and leadership assessment and evaluation.
The International Seminar (IS) will take place from September 1-3, 2009. It is the Pre-Conference with international guests, where hot and critical issues for schools and school leadership in different countries will be presented and discussed. Information about the Swiss school systems will be provided. Moreover, the participants will visit schools and local educational authorities of Central Switzerland.
The Main Conference from September 3-5, 2009 focuses on the challenges for school leadership with regard to an increase in the self-management of schools. In the keynote speeches, symposia, workshops, and poster presentations, current challenges in the fields of school effectiveness, school improvement, and school management will be discussed. The core idea is to share ideas, knowledge, and experiences.
For the School Leadership Symposium 2009, it is a pleasure to welcome about 250 participants from various countries. Particularly Switzerland, Germany and Austria will be represented. Numerous speakers and presenters will provide revealing information and lead interesting discussions. Around the Symposium’s sessions, there will be a rich offer of cultural and social activities.
The School Leadership Symposium 2009 follows the tradition of the events organized by Prof. Huber in the last years: the School Leadership Symposium 2004 in Bamberg, the International Seminars 2004, 2005 und 2006 in Erfurt, and the School Leadership Symposium 2006 in Erfurt.
The School Leadership Symposium (SLS) 2009 in Zug is an official qualification course in various countries, in particular in the German states, e.g. in Saxony-Anhalt and Rhineland-Palatinate, as well as in Switzerland, e.g. in Central Switzerland in the Canton Zug.
