Videos School Leadership Symposium 2009
September 1-5, the School Leadership Symposium 2009 and the International Seminar
took place. This event is the largest international school leadership conference within the German
speaking context addressing issues within the fields of school effectiveness, school improvement, and
school management. The theme of the conference was: “School Leadership Today, School Leadership
for Tomorrow: Conflicting Expectations and Demands – Challenging Solutions”.
All together, 450 experts from 40 different countries participated in the School Leadership Symposium
(SLS), the main conference from September 3-5. This expert group included researchers, teachers,
principals, representatives of support systems and of educational authorities. 55 international guests
had also participated in the pre-conference, the International Seminar (IS), which took place September
1-3.
Both arrangements aimed towards raising discussions about current topics and emerging issues, and
towards establishing and supporting professional networks in the fields of education management and
leadership, leadership training and development, and leadership assessment and evaluation.
A varied program enabled the participants to share experiences across country boundaries with regard
to the challenges school leaders are facing.
